The BRAT Diet

The BRAT Diet stands for Bananas, Rice, Applesauce and Toast.

Traditionally, a great treatment for a young kid with diarrha.

More recently, doctors have been recommending the BRAT Diet to adult patients that have their own gastrointestinal troubles.

The pectin in the applesauce helps.

The toast is unbuttered, as fat is undesireable during diarrhea. Perhaps, the small amount of carbon on the toast absorbs excess acid in the stomach?

Bananas are high in a specific starch that reduces electrolyte and water losses.

Rice helps decrease the stool volume and has anti-secretion benefits.

The applesauce, bananas and rice work together more effectively as a team.

This remedy diet is temporary and not meant to be a lifestyle or a weight loss diet.
